Drive redundancy does not protect against deletion, malware, theft, fire or every array failure. Keep a separate copy.

Who needs a six- or eight-bay NAS?+

Creators, growing homelabs, offices, surveillance users and households with very large media or photo archives benefit most. A two- or four-bay NAS is usually more economical for modest backup needs.

Which is better: six bays or eight bays?+

Six bays normally provide the best balance of price, size and capacity. Eight bays make sense when long-term growth, large RAID 6 arrays, multiple storage pools or hot spares justify the added cost.

Should a large NAS use RAID 5 or RAID 6?+
